Babe Ruth
Babe Ruth was born in 1895. His real name is George Herman Ruth. When he was seven he went to live in St. Mary's Industrial School. Some of his nicknames were, "Sultan of Swat", "Great Bambino", and "King of Crash". His career stats were .342 batting average and 714 home runs. He was six feet, two inches. He died August 16, 1948 of throat cancer. He was one of the best major league baseball players of all time. He was the first player to hit 60 home runs in a season, in 1927. He was also a very good pitcher. He was most proud of pitching 29 and 2/3 scoreless innings in the World Series.
